These honors are of the highest recognition a winery can earn in the state of Oregon and we couldn’t be happier to be part of such an amazing group of wines. It has been a very busy spring! Which is why you haven’t heard from us in quite a while. Well, wait no more! The vineyard is looking beautiful at the moment, as she usually does this time of year. We planted about 200 baby Tempranillo and Gamay vines this spring, an exciting addition to our diversity of varieties here at Alexeli. Flowering began in the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay last week, leading us to believe it could be another early harvest this year.
The 2014 harvest will be our first harvest as a LIVE certified vineyard. If you are not familiar, LIVE is a certification of environmentally and socially responsible wine growing in the Pacific Northwest. It’s how we’ve always grown the grapes, but this way we are part of an ever expanding list of vineyards committed to responsible practices. Hopefully that list continues to grow!
About two years ago, we began putting our wines in kegs for restaurant and catering companies in the NW. Over the the past year, we’ve been developing a relationship with a diverse group of entrepreneurs seeking to open a flexible wine making space and restaurant in the Southeast Industrial Corridor in Portland Oregon and last month we opened our doors as **Coopers Hall**, serving up Rotisserie chicken and small plates to pare with our 35 wine offerings. Several of the offerings are grown and crafted right here at Alexeli. We welcome you to stop in and check out the space. Check us out at: coopershall.com
If you are having an event or some sort, consider renting our small wine keg stands and grab 2 kegs of your favorite wine, you’ll be amazed at the quality of the wines that you can drink while eliminating waste and cutting the packaging out of the cost.
We bottled our 2013 RIesling and 2013 Cascade White Blend in late May and had several new releases in the tasting room in April: an Applegate Red Blend, 2009 Estate Pinot Noir Reserve, 2012 Malbec, 2012 Riesling and 2012 Gewurztraminer. Wine Club members got an early taste of our 2012 Nuages Cabernet Franc and Merlot Cuvee’ in their May shipments as well.
One day only holiday sale in the AlexEli Tasting Room December 14th. 15% off all wines with a 4+ bottle purchase.
NOVEMBER 29 & 30 & DECEMBER 1ST, NOON – 5:00 PM AT ALEXELI
Help us celebrate the completion of our 6th vintage here at AlexEli Vineyard! It’s the last weekend to visit the tasting room before we close for the season. Hope to see you!
We’ve almost made it through another season here at AlexEli. The grapes came in – beautiful fruit from our vineyard as well as some delicious grapes from southern Oregon – we de-stemmed em’, pressed em’, fermented em’ and now all that juice – save for a few bins – is settling nicely into their new tank and barrel homes for the winter. We’re still finding rogue grapes stuck to the bottom of our socks in the laundry, but feeling pretty good about the 2013 harvest. Thanks to everyone that came out to lend a hand during those long days!
This year’s harvest brought in incredibly ripe fruit. We’ve never seen our acids so low in our Riesling and Chardonnay, which brings some exciting news … we will bottle a dry Riesling this vintage! The Pinot Noir is currently going through malo-lactic ferment in barrel and is seeing some unusual characters for what’s typical here at AlexEli. Pine, cocoa, coffee and dark chocolate are some early aromatics … the incredibly low acid and high skin ripeness has made for a larger wine to say the least. Also new this year, we opted for hot ferments with the whites. Do wines really blow off aromatics when ferments get hot or do they simply have different aromatics? We’ll find out!
Local Wine Club members can pick up November shipments beginning this weekend or any weekend through the end of the month. As always, thank you for your continued support of AlexEli and happy sipping!
